Mathematics Laboratory & Technology Center
Objectives
The primary objective of the laboratory and society has been to enrich teaching of Mathematics at school level. The ‘learning by discovery approach’ is practised here where the students are made to work on projects and activities, which highlight the relevance of mathematics to the real world. In the laboratory, Mathematics is brought to life through the use of technology in the form of graphic calculators, graphing softwares and hands-on activities. The Mathematics Laboratory also functions as a resourse center for other schools and conducts professional development programmes training workshops for teachers.
The activities of the laboratory and society maybe broadly classified as follows:
- To create and conduct projects and activities which focus on applications of Mathematics to real life problems thus relating school Mathematics to situations outside the classroom.
- To integrate the use of technology, specifically graphing calculators, computer algebra and other software packages in Mathematical Modelling activities.
- To investigate the use of technology in teaching Mathematics at the middle school and senior secondary level.
- To provide training to teachers of schools acoss the country in preparing and conducting Mathematics laboratory activities.
